Connecting research perspectives for a climate-resilient future.
Explore climate and sustainability questions through exchange across disciplines, institutions, and regions.
Conference ChairProfessor Baojie He, Chongqing University, China
Climate and environmental challenges connect questions that are often studied separately. Decisions about energy systems affect the places where people live; land and water management shape both ecological conditions and livelihoods; and the success of an intervention depends on how it works within a particular community. Understanding these connections requires room for different research traditions, methods, and forms of practical experience.
The Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability conference (CCES 2027), taking place online on 20 January 2027, provides a forum for examining these connections. It brings climate and sustainability research into conversation with planning, engineering, public health, economics, and public policy, with an emphasis on clearly defined problems and approaches that can be critically assessed.
The conference aims to encourage contributions that explain not only what a proposed solution can achieve, but also its assumptions, limitations, and conditions for implementation. Comparative studies, local experience, methodological advances, and lessons from practice can each offer useful perspectives. Particular value lies in discussions that help participants identify where findings can travel across contexts and where local conditions require a different response.
Through this exchange, CCES 2027 seeks to help participants formulate shared questions, recognise complementary expertise, and explore opportunities for further collaboration.
UoSEI approaches scholarly exchange as an ongoing process: a question raised in one presentation may become the starting point for another conversation, a comparison between studies, or a new research connection. CCES 2027 offers an opportunity to develop this kind of dialogue around a shared area of concern. We welcome participation that is curious, rigorous, and open to perspectives beyond a single field.

Professor Baojie He is a Professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Chongqing University, China, where he leads the Centre for Climate-Resilient and Low-Carbon Cities. His research focuses on urban climate, heat-resilient planning and design, urban heat mitigation and adaptation, and the net-zero-carbon built environment. He received his PhD from the University of New South Wales, Australia, and is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Urban and Building Science. His work connects urban climate research with planning and design approaches to more resilient, low-carbon cities.
